Step by step guide to test the operation of the check valve.

Step 1

You must locate the location of the valve in the system, usually the valve is constructed with plastic and metal, it has around rivets that hold the pieces in place, in most systems the valve is located above the sump pump she enters two pipes, in other systems you should look at the route of the discharge valve that goes to the sewer outside your residence.
 

Step 2

This step will be eye and touch inspection, you should inspect the connection of the valve to the pipe. Locate the junction points between each piece, especially the one that is posterior to the valve in the exit direction, if you see or feel when touching around the humidity and / or drip pipe then the valve leaks

Step 3


Making a test with water. You must pour several gallons of water into the sump well until the float causes the pump to start and start pumping to the water discharge outlet. Keep watching, as you did in the previous point without the pump on, now that it is operating with greater pressure in the pipes, check if there is moisture or dripping in the connections that you have already located. If the drip or moisture is positive then the check valve leaks at its seal and must be replaced.

Step 4

This last step will be annotations and conclusions, wait for the pump to go out, write down everything you observe. When the pump is turned off, look at the sinkhole, if you see that the pipe returns the water to the well or some of the water remaining in the pipe returns, the check valve is definitely failing and must be replaced before it rains and the well is fill.
